INTRODUCTION
Geophysical images from provincial and federal surveys are available to view and download from the Geoscience Atlas. They consist of regional aeromagnetic data for all of Newfoundland and Labrador as well as more detailed surveys consisting of predominantly aeromagnetic data but also gamma-ray and digital terrain elevation data.

Information (e.g., survey logistics, link to survey report, link to digital data)  about individual surveys, except the Regional Residual Magnetic layers, can be obtained by clicking on the blue underlined NAME of the survey in the Contents panel (e.g., Hopedale - 2018). Alternatively, link to the same information by turning on the Index of Airborne Geophysical Surveys and click on the polygon representing that survey. In the Search Results window, click on the Links for the survey of interest and click on the 'Airborne Survey' link to view general information about the survey, survey logistics, and links to reports and digital data, if available. Geophysical images can now be downloaded as tif, png and similar file types, with associated registration files, in the UTM coordinate system, NAD27 datum.

METHODS
The REGIONAL residual magnetic image layers for Newfoundland and for Labrador are accessed at the very bottom of the Geophysics - Newfoundland and the Geophysics - Labrador groups. They were flown by the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) from the early 1950s to the early 1980s (Kilfoil, 1994).  These are the regional compilations of the shaded-relief airborne geophysical magnetic data, available for all of Newfoundland and Labrador.   Processing steps for this "regional" data are described in Kilfoil, (1992, 1994). The  data were flown at an 800 m line spacing.  The images were reprocessed and saved for the Atlas at a 20 m ground resolution.

The DETAILED geophysical surveys are available above the Regional Residual Mag surveys in the Geophysics - Newfoundland and Geophysics - Labrador groups at the bottom of the Atlas Contents panel list.  They were flown at line spacings ranging from 100m to 300m.  The images were processed and saved for the Atlas at a 10 m ground resolution.

The displayed images use false shaded relief, illuminated from the north. The images cannot be queried in the Atlas, but can be downloaded in many formats including tif, jpg and png. The survey logistics are available by clicking on the help files for each image group (blue underlined text in the Contents panel) or by opening the Index of Airborne Geophysical Surveys and clicking on the polygon associated with that image. Note that the Regional Residual Mag images are not available in the Index.
